Performance/Competitive Groups

An exciting opportunity for students aged 9 and up to take their work out of the classroom and into the public venue. Our students have performed in Disneyland, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and all around British Columbia.

Performance / Competitive based classes (groups) will focus on enriched dance technique and performance skills for students who love to dance and would like their abilities to excel further and at a faster pace. These dancers must take at least 2 classes per week and will perform in at least 2 competitions as well as any other performances in which Stage 1 takes part (i.e. May Day, Kitsilano Showboat, etc.).

All students* who wish to join any Performance/Competitive group must attend a minimum of 1 week (5 classes) of Summer Camp in the discipline in which they wish to compete the following season. *Once a student has reached the age of 16, they may be allowed to join a competitive group without first attending Summer Camp IF they have a summer job which conflicts with the Dance Camp schedule (proof of summer employment may be required).

STUDENTS WHO WISH TO JOIN THE PERFORMANCE/COMPETITIVE GROUPS SHOULD BE:

  • committed to team effort
  • reliable in their attendance to all rehearsals and performances
  • good natured - grumps, complainers and whiners need not join
  • performance oriented - a big smile and 110% effort no matter what the circumstances
  • independent and responsible - able to look after themselves

  • GROUP REQUIREMENTS

  • Students who join a TAP performance/competitive group must also attend at least 1 JAZZ or BALLET class per week to enhance their skills.

  • Recreational Classes

Dancers aged 9 and up who don't wish to join or want to attend only 1 class per week may join the JR to ADV Recreational classes. These classes will also be fun and teach technique and performance skills. Since these students attend as few as 1 class per week, they will enjoy a class at a more conservative pace. These classes will also participate in the annual production.

All other levels (preschool, level 1, beginners - all ages and adults) will also be performing in our annual Stage 1 performance.
